Axial SWI images are shown at the level of the basal ganglia in a healthy individual acquired at 3 T (a) and 7 T (b). At higher field strength, the shorter T2* relaxation times result in the greater SWI sensitivity to magnetic susceptibility differences in the blood vessels and mineralization in the basal ganglia, particularly in the globus pallidus
